American Taylor Fritz advances to the 2025 US Open Quarter Final

Seed 4 seed Taylor Fritz, the only American remaining in the US Open Men’s Singles draw, moved to the quarterfinals on Sunday with a 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 victory over Cechia’s 21st Thomas Machuk.

Fritz went on to have a great run where he saw him win in 25 of his last 30 games. His 25 wins since the end of the French Open have led all players on the men’s tour.

Fritz offered 14 aces against two double faults, earning 91% of his first serve points. He didn’t face breakpoints and finished the match in 1 hour and 38 minutes.

Fritz, runner-up to the 2024 US Open, advanced to his third straight in his seventh career major quarter final, the Flushing Meadows. He joined Francistiá Fé (2022-2024) as the only American man in the last 15 years, reaching the three straight US open quarter finals.

“It was a tough week for the guy. I don’t think I was expecting everything that happened. I felt really, really good about the opportunity this week,” Fritz said before the Americans stepped out before the 16th round.

Fritz will continue his bid against 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic on Tuesday to end the major American singles drought. They had played 10 times before, and Djokovic was a perfect 10-0.

“Hopefully, I’m the last (American guy), so the crowd really comes behind me and becomes me through it,” Fritz said.

This is the sixth consecutive Grand Slam featuring at least one American man in the quarterfinals, and the longest winning streak since running six times in a row from the 2002 US to the 2004 Australia Open.
