Good night for Félix Auger-Aliassime and a very bad night for Alexander Zverev.
The third seed at the US Open bouncing off the tournament just after 11pm local time, making it 4-6, 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the third round of the Flushing Meadows. This was Auger Alicim’s first career victory over the top five players in the Grand Slam.

He certainly won it, erasing the early deficit with a dominant performance that earned 50 winners against 35 unprotected errors.
Ranked sixth in the world before struggling over the past few years, Auger Ariasime was considered a reward for his hard work.

With this loss, Zverev is seeking his first career grand slam title, despite his 24 other tournament titles and fifth spot on ATP’s all-time career revenue list. He showed proper form in the semi-finals leading to tournaments at the Cincinnati Open and the Canadian Open, but was caught up in the face of a capable opponent who showed a predictable level of small numbers.

Auger Aliasime especially dominated the net, winning against Zverev, who counter-punched 24/27 points. His reward will be on a date with No. 15 Andrei Lubreviff on Monday, along with his first major quarterfinal chance since 2022.
