  • Hyun Gyu-Oh Celtic career count
  • The value of Hion Gyaw has skyrocketed since leaving the Celtics

Adam Ida’s Celtic journey ended on the deadline day, just 12 months after his transfer to Parkhead, when he completed his permanent move to EFL Championship Side Swansea.

Swansea agreed to transactions worth up to £7 million to sign him from Hoop, who agreed to a transaction of up to £9.5 million and a guarantee of £8.5 million.

As you can see from the graphics above, Celtic enjoyed a fruitful loan spell at Parkhead at the end of the 2023/24 campaign before signing with Ida, winning the SFA Cup final as part of it.

However, the Irish forward took part in permanently, but in the summer of 2024, Brendan Rogers called for another path with Hyun Gyu-Oh.

Celtic paid a fee of £2.5 million to sign South Korea’s centre from Suwon Bluewings in January 2023.

South Korea International scored seven goals in 21 matches for Australia’s head coach in the second half of its campaign, scoring four goals in four matches per TransferMarkt in just 592 minutes of football, with the top six splits in the Scottish premiership.

In his only full season with the Scottish Giants, OH scored five goals in his club’s 26 appearances, and averaged every 145 minutes according to TransferMarkt.

Despite his relatively impressive instantaneous ratio over 18 months at Celtic, Rogers chose to sign forever and sell the striker to Belgian Side Jenk for a fee of £2.3 million.

The value of Hion Gyaw has skyrocketed since leaving the Celtics

The 24-year-old star’s transfer value has increased significantly since leaving the Scottish giant for a fee of just £2.3 million thanks to Genk’s performance.

OH scored nine goals and provided two assists in the 2024/25 campaign in the Belgian side’s league football in 684 minutes, surpassing the XG of 6.95 per sofa score.

As you can see from the table above, he was one of the best, if not the best, scorers in the previous professional league, but also excels as a creative threat at the top edge of the pitch.

His impressive form of Genk brought interest from Stuttgart after selling Nick Woltemaded to Newcastle United. The German side was reportedly locked up in a striker’s £24 million deal before retreating from the move due to concerns over an old ACL injury.

The transfer was not made on the deadline, but the timing could have influenced the decision to avoid the risk of injury, but it showed the value OH has in the market now – £24 million.

This means that the Korean forward is now worth more than £21.7 million than the £2.3 million that the Celt sold him to Jenk last summer. Meanwhile, Ida, whose arrival drove him out of Glasgow, has become a player of between £8.5 million and £7 million based on his transfer within the last 12 months.

Therefore, Rogers and Celtic had a Howler in the position of striker by signing big money to Ida, instead of committing to the development of OH, now a sophisticated and prolific striker, based on Genk’s sublime statistics.
