Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will compete with each other in the new exhibit golf match scheduled for Wednesday, December 17th in Jupiter, Florida, as well as the 2025 Ryder Cup later this month. The event, known as the Golf Channel Game, features a pair of four teams competing in various play formats, despite the pressure of the clock under the Prime Time Light.
“The Golf Channel Games brings a new approach to golf inspired by events like the NFL Combine and the All-Star Games, and is inspired by the All-Star Games of top professional leagues,” McIlroy said. “They give players the opportunity to show off their skills in unique challenges and provide fans with new ways to enjoy the game in the postseason. We look forward to competing in this new and fun format.”
There are four formats that require you to pass through your competitors on Trump National Jupiter. The first is time drive, chips and putts. Here, players compete individually, drive the ball in total yards, tip the ball within a certain distance of pins and holes, and chip all putts on a certain foot against the clock.
The player is then tasked with competing in a 14 club challenge where one competitor of each team faces off against another team. A direct competitor pulls the club out of the same golf bag and takes a strike shot from a given distance on the fairway during the contest closest to the pin. When a club is used, it is eliminated. This means that each player will use all 14 clubs to attack seven different shots. All eight players from the competition compete in four face-to-face matches.
Team strategies involve the following formats: This takes place in the form of a 4-player alternative shot in three holes, so it involves the following format: Teammates will be staged in a particular position – one on the tee, one on the fairway, two on the green and the surrounding area – and which side ends with the best score with the shortest victory.
Finally, McIlroy and Scheffler face off in the captain’s challenge. Each player attacks the shot from 100 yards, 50 yards, bunkers, greensides, 50 feet and 10 feet putts. Anyone with the lowest distance from the hole in the shot wins.
“The Golf Channel game will be a great combination of skill, strategy and pressure,” Schaeffler said. “This will be an entirely new way for players and fans to experience the game of golf. Everyone knows how competitive we are. I think Golf Channel games will be an innovative competition that will attract audiences. I’m excited to be a part of this.”
Additional participants for the Golf Channel Game will be announced in the coming weeks.
