Crystal Palace defender Mark Guech linked his move to Liverpool during the summer transfer, but the Premier League champions were unable to make the deal.
They managed to secure a contract with the London Club on the deadline, but Crystal Palace pulled out the plug of the deal after not signing the replacement. Now, football insiders have revealed that Crystal Palace is open to selling players early in the summer, but Liverpool slowed down the movement and ultimately cost them.
Crystal Palace had lined up many targets to replace the 25-year-old defender, but could not sign due to a lack of finances. If Liverpool had moved faster for Guech in the windows, Crystal Palace could have replaced him properly.
Why did Marc Guehi’s move fail?
Callum O’Connell said:
“If Liverpool had offered a £40 million offer, they had a lot of targets they were looking at.
“The problem was that by the time they reached the deadline, many of those targets weren’t available.
“The Sporting CP’s Oousmane Diomande was an important name for them, but it wasn’t a move they could make until Guehi was sold to collect money.
“The palace was willing to spend money before it was spent, and was not at risk of financial stability.
“If Liverpool had come in early, they would have made the deal.
“Instead, they delayed it at the end of the window, where it became impossible for the palace to find his replacement and sanction his sales.”
Can Liverpool sign guehi?
The player completed medical care at Liverpool at deadline, but the move did not pass. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool decided to come back for him when the transfer window opened in January.
He will become a free agent at the end of the season and Crystal Palace will prefer to sell him for a reasonable amount in January, rather than losing him for free. It is still unknown how the situation will develop. Several other clubs are passionate about Guehi.
Liverpool will need more quality and depth in their defensive forces, and England International will be a transformative addition to them. The player is at the peak of his career and joining the Premier League champions will be an exceptional opportunity for him as well.
