Liverpool manager Arne Slot provided an update on the injuries suffered by midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.
Mac Allister retreated at halftime after a tough challenge from Burnley’s Lesley Ugochukwu.
According to Slot, this physical conflict was only part of the reason for the replacement, but the midfielder still regains his perfect match after not being injured in many pre-season seasons.
Slot said the Mac Allister “missed a lot of the preseason” and has not yet been built to play high-frequency matches. He estimated that Argentina is now ready to deal with “one game a week, perhaps 70-90 minutes.”
If he is pushed beyond that range, his performance can be degraded. Slot explained that it was important for Mac Allister to monitor his workload after about 70 minutes in international obligations.
Slot added that the alternative was partially tactical, turning Don Suzoboshirai into a more sophisticated midfield position and boxing players more frequently to increase the threat of attack. The need to make changes without risking further tension being taken into account in the call.
Liverpool has no serious concerns about the Mac Allister
Mac Allister reportedly stated that he could continue despite demonstrating the kind of mental strength the Liverpool boss praised.
Slots as reported by the Liverpool World:
“It’s not tactical. It was a bit of both. He missed a lot of the preseason. He missed one game a week, perhaps 70-90 (min). He played 90 for Argentina and was really tired after 70 games, so he didn’t play three games or 90 minutes a week.
“If I take him off in 60 minutes, I want to make another, if I want to change at 75, I can’t do anything anymore. That’s not surprising with the fact that he felt that tackle, paired with the tackle that he felt.
“The combination of what he got injured. We don’t want to use the second alternative after 60 minutes, so we’re not playing very well, so we have a player who can bring Dom (Szoboszlai) into the middle and attack the box.
Arne Slot is smart in his team management
The Liverpool manager did the same with new signer Alexander Isaac, who hadn’t had a proper season at Newcastle United.
The squad depth they have at the moment, the slot can afford to do it, and still have a quality alternative.
