Chelsea is currently firmly signing to sign the English International, which has been appointed by Barcelona, which is said to be “one of the best” in Europe.
Bruce misses the chance to go to the top of the table
The Bruce wasted the chance to go to the top of the Premier League table on Saturday afternoon, with Fabio Carvalho bagging Brentford’s downtime equalizer at GTECH Community Stadium to ensure that the loot was shared in a 2-2 draw.
Enzo Maresca was forced to do three halftime alternatives, considering many players, including Wesley Fofana, who won the first Premier League start of the season, have yet to reach full match fitness.
Maresca shed a bit of light on defensive options, not bringing a replacement for Levi Colwill during the summer transfer period, and the British set up a long spell on the treatment table for damage to the ACL.
However, journalist Graeme Bailey said signing a new centreback is on his to-do list. Chelsea now returns to the race and signs Crystal Palace defender Mark Guech.
Speaking about West London interest, Bailey said: “Chelsea knows everything about Guech, but this summer they chose not to take a new central defender, even after Levi Colwill’s injury. However, the opportunity to add a homemade star, which is currently one of Europe’s best stars, is not logical that they won’t get involved.
“Chelsea knows Guehe’s character. He’s a great person and everyone who meets him tells him that fact. I was told that signing a Premier League executive to sign him is one of the “lowest risk” transfers anyone can make.
However, Liverpool was still thought to be in the position of Paul, so there is fierce competition for the defender’s signature, while Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich have also been nominated as potential suitors.
Guehi can be upgraded with Colwill
The Palace captain could be a Colwill upgrade given that he is much more established at the international level, compared to just five of Chelsea’s defenders.
Not only that, the 25-year-old has outperformed Colwill over many key defensive metrics over the past year.
Average per 90 | Levi Colwill | Mark Guech |
Non-penalty goals | 0.06 | 0.11 |
Tackle | 1.38 | 1.80 |
block | 1.03 | 1.46 |
clearance | 3.31 | 4.63 |
Guehi could be a great signature for Chelsea. If they are eligible for the Champions League again, a move to Stamford Bridge could be an attractive proposition next summer.
