  • Inadequate decisions in the Newcastle game
  • Shearer and Lineker respond to the judge’s decision

Newcastle United extended their unbeaten run on Sunday in a goalless draw against Bournemouth at Vitality Stadium.

Eddie Howe was able to crush another point against his previous team, but the encounter was defined by the umpire controversy.

Inadequate decisions in the Newcastle game

Former referee Mark Kratenburg felt he was lucky that Malick Tear could avoid the second yellow card. The Magpie was left angered when Nick Urtemed was defeated in the penalty area after strong pressure from the Bournemouth defender.

In the final minutes, Bournemouth was awarded a free kick in a dangerous position when Harvey Burns was controversially punished for handball. The winger put the ball firmly in his body and was hit by him from close range, but the referee blew it off for a foul. Kruibert’s low strike from the set piece seemed doomed to the corner until the Pope pushed it away and responded brilliantly, saving a valuable point for the man in Hau.

Meanwhile, Gary Reinker and Alan Shearer felt that Newcastle would have been fuming if the free kicks were late and the net was spotting the net and making the decision absurd.

Lineker said the rest is a football podcast. “That wasn’t great. I actually thought it was okay in the first time. It was pretty end-to-end and it was pretty good pace.

Shearer added: “A terrible decision, handball?

Lineker continued: “Handball. It was ridiculous, wasn’t it? And they couldn’t hand it over because it wasn’t a penalty. And I was thinking, I was thinking, Alan would definitely be ballistic once this goes in.

Shearer: “If it was in and we were beaten 1-0, I would have told you where to go. I wouldn’t have just come.”

Newcastle, meanwhile, needs to raise his performance level if he wants an impressive season. They weren’t at their best in the future. And if they want to regularly find the backstage of the net, they need to start creating more opportunities.
