Spurs Flop was sold strictly by Conte, but now he’s better than Johnson

The Tottenham Hotspur team has come a long way in such a short time. Thomas Frank is the current beneficiary of the impressive recruitment of the hierarchy.

Managers like Antonio Conte have tried and failed to transform the club and have since failed to bring the success fans wanted in North London.

The Italian eventually left the club despite achieving a 53% win rate in March 2023. AngelPostecoglou has been taken over ahead of the next campaign.

Over the past few years, the class has spent heavily on transfer windows, taking the club to the next level, and trying to achieve sustainable success, whether in the Premier League or Europe.

One player brought into such an era shows his talent for Lily White, but is being attacked because of his lack of influence at certain times of spells at the club.

Brennan Johnson’s Spurs career ups and downs

Brennan Johnson joined the Spurs on a £47.5 million report reported in the summer of 2023, scoring 10 goals and arrived with high expectations after registering three assists for Nottingham Forest the previous year.

The Welsman has endured Topsiter Beetime in North London, but only scored five times in his first season with the club.

This situation leads to the winger deleting his social media accounts, but the form rises significantly, and once again secures his position as a normal starter.

Johnson even netted the winner in the Europa League final against Manchester United, scoring 18 times in the final campaign of every competition (most players on the team).

The goal against the Red Devils ended Lily White’s 17-year wait for silverware, then passed on generations of lifelong supporter memories.

While scoring twice on many outings at the beginning of 2025/26, Johnson fell in recent order and didn’t make a single Premier League start from the end of August.

As a result, he has since been outperformed by one former Spurs star who may have been sold harshly considering the lack of first-team action in North London.

Former Spurs star who plays better than Johnson

The Spurs have spent a lot of time in the transfer market over the past few seasons, but have had to sacrifice many players to balance the book to avoid financial implications.

Harry Kane is the biggest player to depart North London over the recent window, joining Bundesliga Giants Bayern Munich with a massive £82 million transfer.

The British left a big gap with the first team, but of course, every player in the club’s history was the most in the club’s history, given Lily White’s 280 goal tally.

Rather than the only attacker the club has been sacrificed to raise funds, former boss Conte decided to offload Winger Jack Clark to Sunderland in the summer of 2022.

The Winger took part in the club from championship side Leeds United at a fee in the £10 million region.

However, Clark was slightly limited to senior club appearances, so it’s safe to say his time in North London didn’t live up to expectations.

After countless loan spells from Lily White, he moved permanently to join the Black Cat three years after the transfer – after which he was unable to make the impact he wanted.

The 24-year-old now has become a key member of the current first team team, praying for a deal with the town of Ipswich after joining for £15 million last summer.

Clark has now scored three times and has registered as a Tractor Boys assist once. This is a higher tally than Johnson’s tally, who only scored twice in the 2025/26 campaign.

I will not deny that the British achieve such heights in the lower division, but it is clear that he is a confident player now, but the same cannot be said about the Welsman.

Frank has had to give Johnson the support he needs to return to the level he produced last season, giving him a great deal of interest to everyone involved with the club in recent weeks.

As for Clark, it’s great to see the former player fulfilling the possibility that he’s finally arrived, but it’s really a shame that he doesn’t do that with the white Tottenham guy.

His departure may have been a bit premature, but unfortunately for the fanbase he will now remain a case of what could have been a loss of Ipswich’s profits.
