The transfer market may just be over for the summer of 2025, but Man United is already thinking about their next deal.
Over the summer, Mateus Cunha, Brian Mbeumo, Benjamin Sesco and Senne Ramens arrived at Old Trafford, but that wasn’t enough to meet all Man United’s needs. However, work is already underway to address either of these as the transfer market resumes in 2026.
Man United plans to sign new goalkeeper
According to TEAMtalk, Dean Jones has revealed that he intends to sign another goalkeeper in 2026 despite Man United’s just signing Lamens.
“Lamens is not guaranteed to be the first-choice goalkeeper in the long run, but he gives him the chance to become number one in the next game. And that’s all he wants to focus on now. United seems determined to not commit to a first-choice stopper because he wants to compete for genuine uniforms on a weekly basis.”
“It felt like the decision to give Lamens a chance was premature and he did well this weekend so personally I think he has an advantage when it comes to starting against Liverpool after the international break. But I believe that Beindil is still in the game and I think United are still looking for another goalkeeper, so I can’t say he’s set to be the first choice right now.”
“I’m sure a new goalkeeper will join by summer, and if a good option is found, he might join in January. Again, this is about competition and strength in the deep side. Ramens knows the club is giving him a long-term reputation, but he also knows he has to play very well on a steady base to protect his shirt.”
Lamens has made a good impression since joining Man United, but that doesn’t seem enough to be enough to be the club’s number one for years to come. It remains to be seen who will arrive in 2026, but it is expected that the sports division will include Emi Martinez and Mike Meignan as candidates.
