SHANGHAI — Seventh-seeded Alex de Minaur defeated Nuno Borges 7-5, 6-2 at the Shanghai Masters on Wednesday to become the third player to win 50 games at the tour level this season.

De Minaur hit 19 winners and reached the Masters 1000 quarterfinals for the seventh time in an hour and 47 minutes.

Only top-ranked Carlos Alcaraz with 67 wins and Taylor Fritz with 50 wins have already reached the 50-win mark in 2025.

De Minaur had his best season ever in 2024 with 47 wins and two titles.

His next match will be against 16th seed Daniil Medvedev, who defeated Lerner Tien 7-6 (6), 6-7 (1), 6-4.

Meanwhile, No. 12 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime defeated No. 8 seed Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-2 to set up a quarter-final matchup with Arthur Rinderknek, who upset the other seeded player, No. 15 Jiri Rehekka, 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Rinderknev, ranked 54th after eliminating third-seeded Alexander Zverev, joined his cousin Valentin Bachelot in the quarterfinals.
