Ohio’s Division I golf season ended Oct. 13 with the conclusion of the Ohio High School Athletic Association state tournament.

Sycamore senior and last year’s Division I state champion Eva Becerril wrapped up her career with a fourth-place finish, while Lakota West senior Toku Fujiwara was the Division I runner-up on the boys side of the course.

Toku Fujiwara leads Cincinnati’s Division I boys.

After the first day at the Firestone North Course, three of the top four golfers on the leaderboard were from Cincinnati. St. Xavier University freshman Zach McGrath tied for first with 69 points, and Anderson University’s Marshall Morenci and Fujiwara tied for third with 70 points.

On the second day, Fujiwara had a steady run, securing one more round with a 70 and finishing with a 140. This was a good enough performance for state runner-up, with a three-stroke lead over champion Brady Burnham (Dublin Jerome). McGrath finished third with a total of 143 and Morenci with a total of 145.

Thanks to McGrath’s performance, St. Xavier posted a 599 and moved into fourth place in the state, 21 strokes behind winner Dublin Jerome and just one stroke behind third-place St. Ignatius. Anderson finished with a 627 both days.

Eva Becerr caps off career with All-Ohio finish

Sycamore senior Eva Becerril, who won the OHSAA Division I title last year, once again ranked among the top in the state in the final round. The Boise State commit shot a 73 on the first day, four strokes behind Solon’s Serena Wu and tied for second with five others.

Becerril shot better on the second day, posting a 145 for fourth place overall, six strokes behind Olentangy’s Meadow Tian, ​​who won with a four-under 139.

Elise Dunkel (Springboro), six strokes behind Becerril, shot 151 for ninth place. Dunkel led the Panthers to 656 points, tied for seventh as a team. Anderson followed in eighth place with 680 points, led by senior Ellie Lamkin’s 155 points.

Individually, Little Miami’s Lauren Perry scored a 154 to tie for 11th overall. Olivia Donovan of Lebanon finished 29th with 164 points.

Mattia Kastner finishes the first day of the Division III tournament.

There is one more day of golf scheduled for the rest of the year. The OHSAA Division III tournament concludes Oct. 14 at Northstar Golf Club.

After the first round, Cincinnati’s only representative, Seven Hills junior Mattia Kastner, is tied for 18th place. Kaestner, who advanced to the state tournament with a district championship at Pipestone on Sept. 29, shot 80 in the first round. He tees off at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday.
