  • Why Liverpool have an advantage in the Semenyo race
  • Bournemouth are in a strong position to sign Semenyo

According to Football Insider, the race to sign Antoine Semenyo is heating up, with Liverpool seemingly holding a promising advantage in their pursuit.

The Bournemouth attacker is attracting interest from several Premier League clubs, but sources suggest Liverpool could gain a decisive advantage by linking up with Bournemouth through sporting director Richard Hughes.

Competition for the forward could intensify next year as Semenyo is in great form and Bournemouth have increased their asking price.

Semenyo’s performances this season have received widespread attention. With six goals and three assists in all competitions, he has become one of the more attractive attacking options outside of the traditional elite.

The Cherries, wary of losing a valuable asset, are bracing for offers, with reports suggesting Manchester United, Tottenham, Chelsea and Arsenal are all interested.

Bournemouth have already adjusted their valuation accordingly, with the attacker’s price tag well above £80m.

Why Liverpool have an advantage in the Semenyo race

Pete O’Rourke told Football Insider:

“Well, it’s no surprise that some of England’s biggest clubs are eyeing Semenyo.

“Liverpool, we know of Liverpool’s links with Bournemouth through their sporting director Richard Hughes and that could give them a big advantage over other clubs who are interested.

“Manchester United showed some interest in Semenyo in the summer and Tottenham showed some interest as well.

“I’m sure Manchester City, Chelsea and Arsenal will all consider Semenyo, and Bournemouth are also prepared for interest in him.

“I don’t see a move happening in January because of the amount of money it would take to get him away from Bournemouth.”

His recent contract renewal, in which he signed a new five-year deal in July, has given Bournemouth some peace of mind, but it does not necessarily rule out the possibility of him leaving.

The club currently has no intention of parting ways any time soon, but could be tempted by a bid that ticks all the boxes.

What sets Liverpool apart is not just the interest, but the relationship dynamics at play. Liverpool sporting director Richard Hughes has a strong relationship with Bournemouth, having worked closely with them on past deals.

Officials believe that familiarity could smooth negotiations and become a differentiating factor when multiple clubs form an alliance.
