Tottenham manager Thomas Frank could secure a further signing in January after the Lewis family gave the Lilywhites a £100m capital injection last week.

The report says the additional funding will be used for Spurs’ “day-to-day” operations, with CEO Vinay Venkatesham and non-executive chairman Peter Charrington currently in the process of deciding how to spend the cash.

According to reliable journalist Alasdair Gold, Frank and technical director Johan Lange will also have a say, with the Danes and Tottenham’s new boardroom finalizing the financial requirements for success on the pitch.

This follows interesting claims from Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol last month, who reported at the time that ENIC intended to inject money into the club, which could be used to make new transfers or increase their wage budget.

With January approaching and there being good reason to believe some of his new money could be used to attack the transfer market, the team has some key areas that need to be addressed.

Tottenham are thought to still want a centre-back and another winger after failing to sign Sabinho and another defender in the summer window. Meanwhile, reports have emerged that Spurs are also keen to sign a new number nine.

Dominic Solanke has not featured since Tottenham’s 2-0 win away to Man City in August, and has not played more than 20 minutes in any of his three appearances so far this season as the England international continues to recover from minor ankle surgery.

Meanwhile, Richarlison has been a cause for concern amid some criticism over his lack of consistency, with Matthijs Tell starting against Leeds United and scoring the opening goal in place of the Brazilian.

Frank has made a good start in the Spurs dugout after being handed a lucrative three-year contract by former president Daniel Levy, making him the third-highest paid manager in the Premier League, but the Danes undoubtedly need a reliable goalscorer up top.

This is uncharacteristic of Spurs, as Randall Kolo Muani can play as a centre-forward, but only on a straight loan, meaning Lange and co will likely be forced to return to the market to pursue longer-term goals.

If the France international returns to full fitness, he may eventually prove worthy of permanent contract talks, but for now Tottenham are weighing their options.

Journalist responds to ‘whispers’ about Ivan Toney joining Tottenham

Al Ahly star Ivan Toney, who worked alongside Frank at Brentford and scored 20 Premier League goals in the 2022/2023 season, has recently been linked with a move to the N17 in January.

Some reports have also claimed that Frank has contacted Toney about a loan move to Tottenham in the winter, with reporter Dean Jones reacting to “whispers” he has heard about the £40m forward’s possible return to England.

“Interestingly, there’s starting to be a buzz around him,” Jones told TEAMtalk.

“There are some rumors that he could go to Spurs. Obviously there are links with Thomas Frank from Brentford, but I don’t get the impression there’s too much there.”

“I have not heard that Spurs are seriously considering it at the moment, but we will know for sure soon once they have outlined their initial target list for the new year.

“Personally, I think there are players ahead of Tony that they will look at.”

Since moving to Saudi Arabia in the summer of 2024, Toney has played just two minutes for England and was left out of the Three Lions squad for nearly a year before being substituted on the bench for the game against Andorra in June and the shock defeat to Senegal.

“He deserves to be with us and I am convinced because he has scored over 20 goals for the team this season,” coach Thomas Tuchel said after Toney was selected for the team for the last time.

“He won a big title in the Asian Champions League and made a big contribution with goals and assists.

“Last time (in March), I said I would include a visit (to Saudi Arabia) in my schedule, but it wasn’t scheduled, so I thought I’d bring him (Tony) and have him travel with me.”

The 29-year-old may have his sights set on playing in Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup, but despite enjoying and scoring goals in the Middle East, he hasn’t attracted much attention during his summer call-up.

Given this, Toney would have to give up his hefty £426,000-a-week salary to return home, although the prospect of returning to England might tempt him.
