Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister and Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandes are also on Real Madrid’s target list.

As first reported here in the Daily Briefing, Xabi Alonso remains eyeing a signing in the position after missing out on Arsenal’s Martin Zvimendi.

Currently on Madrid’s list are Mac Allister, Fernandes, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and AZ Alkmaar’s youngster Keith Smit.

Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo is another signing to watch as he is seen playing a different kind of midfield role to other players.

A leading industry source told me: “Real Madrid are interested in Alexis Mac Allister. Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandes, Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and AZ Alkmaar’s rising talent Keith Smit are also on Madrid’s radar.”

It will be interesting to see how this develops, but we imagine Mac Allister and Fernandes are not easy targets to sign.

Liverpool and Chelsea don’t usually sell clubs, so a big name like this is likely to be in their long-term plans and won’t be able to leave unless they get some crazy money.

Real Madrid aims to transform midfield

Alonso seems to want to change the midfield he inherited at the Bernabéu and needs someone like Zvimendi.

It has also been suggested that Caicedo could be targeted as an upgrade to Aurelien Choameny in that area of the pitch.

However, Wharton may be the most realistic option as it is unlikely that Crystal Palace will be able to keep hold of the talented young England international, as they did with Michael Oliseh and Ebelesi Eze in the past two summer transfer windows.
