Manchester United delivered one of the biggest surprises of the season so far with an impressive 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield.

The Red Devils had a rather unconvincing start to the season and will not be favorites to win today, but Brian Mbeumo’s goal gave them an early lead before Harry Maguire scored the winner in the second half.

Manchester United vs Liverpool player ratings

Senne Ramens – 7.5 – Made a fine save to keep Alexander Isak at bay, but the Liverpool striker could probably have done better with his shot as well. Still, Man United’s new goalkeeper had a solid game and has proven to be a very important upgrade over Andre Onana.

Harry Maguire – 8.5 – What a legendary performance from Harry Maguire! Frequent disqualified at United, he showed his importance once again with a series of strong defenses and today at Anfield he headed home the winning goal.

Matthijs de Ligt – 7 – It was solid enough for United, but there were plenty of big chances wasted for Liverpool as well.

Luke Shaw – 6.5 – Still not entirely convincing as part of a back three, Luke Shaw has done his job with Mohamed Salah struggling to make much of an impact on that team.

Amad Diallo – 7.5 – Wing-back Amad Diallo put in a great performance, setting up Brian Mbeumo’s opening goal and working extremely well at both ends of the pitch.

Diogo Dalot – 6 – Diogo Dalot looks a bit out of place on the left flank, has been criticized for his poor performance, especially in the first half, and is probably a weakness that still needs to be fixed in this team.

Casemiro – 7 – It wasn’t exactly a classic match in terms of a midfield battle, but Casemiro did a decent, if unspectacular, job despite coming on as a substitute after being booked in the second half.

Bruno Fernandes – 7.5 – He should have scored, but he created many chances and showed his usual quality from United’s midfield.

Mason Mount – 6.5 – He has returned to the team a bit recently, but Mason Mount did not prove his authority much in this game, so it remains to be seen whether he will start in more games.

Brian Mbeumo – 8 – A well-scored goal just a minute into the game marked a great afternoon for Brian Mbeumo, giving him the moment the club cost him big bucks for.

Matheus Cunha – 6.5 – Mateus Cunha, deployed as the main striker as Benjamin Sesco was left on the bench, linked play well but could not really provide enough threat. There was another game without a goal or an assist, and it’s been zero since his move to Old Trafford.

Subs: Manuel Ugarte 6, Koby Mainu 6, Lenny Yolo 6.5, Benjamin Sesco 6, Patrick Dorg 6.5
