Herta to join F2 with Hitech

Cadillac has announced that F1 test driver Colton Herta will make the switch from IndyCar and make his F2 debut with Hitech next season.

Herta is part of the Cadillac F1 set-up, but because he does not have an FIA Super License, he can only play a testing role at this stage. F2 offers the most superlicense points of any championship and his move to F1’s feeder series was announced last month, and now it has been confirmed that he will race for Hitech. Led by former Alpine team boss Ollie Oakes, the team has won every F2 season since joining in 2020.

“I’m very excited to officially join F2 for the 2026 F2 season,” said Herta. “This is a great opportunity to develop my skills in European races and compare myself with the best young drivers in the world.

“Racing on the same weekend as F1 will allow me to experience that environment firsthand and help me grow as a member of the Cadillac F1 family. I am very grateful for the trust and support of Cadillac and Hitech and I can’t wait to get started.”

By joining Hitech, Herta will race with a team that is competing for both championships in F2 this year. Hitech is also based in Silverstone, just a short walk from Cadillac’s UK base at the same circuit, providing logistical convenience.

TWG Motorsports and Cadillac F1 Team CEO Dan Tolis said both Herta and Hitech have proven they can be successful in the past and the Californian is looking to immerse himself in the European racing environment ahead of a potential F1 opportunity.

“Colton has already shown exceptional talent and professionalism throughout his career,” Twaris said. “His entry into F2 with Hitech is a natural and important next step in his development towards F1. Not only will joining F2 strengthen his racecraft in a European environment, but it will further integrate him into our team as he continues to support us with testing and simulator duties.”

“We are proud of Colton’s commitment to success in European racing and look forward to watching him take on this exciting new challenge with Hitech, a team with a proven track record of success in the junior categories.”

Hitech has enjoyed a particularly competitive season this year, currently sitting just 12 points behind leaders Invicta in the teams championship, while Luke Browning is 27 points adrift of the leader in the drivers’ standings. There are two rounds left in the 2025 season: Qatar and Abu Dhabi.
