Nottingham Forest make contact with Dyche to sign defender for £22m in first contract

Nottingham Forest are now making an approach to sign a ‘quick’ defender for £22m, with Sean Dyche replacing Ange Postecoglou in the City Ground hotseat.

Postecoglou’s terrible tenure as manager came to an end on Saturday with a 3-0 home defeat to Chelsea, with Forest again struggling defensively and scoring three goals at home against FC Midtjylland earlier in the month.

Evangelos Marinakis will likely have his eyes set on the January transfer window, given that Tricky Trees have picked up just five points from their opening eight Premier League games and are at risk of being drawn into a relegation battle.

Given that the City Ground side currently sit in the bottom three, it probably makes sense to bring in a manager with a track record of leading teams to safety, and Dyche has exactly that from his time at Everton and Burnley.

Dyche has agreed to join Forest on a long-term contract. Of course, he is known for his more defensive style of play than Ange, and the 54-year-old could be looking to strengthen his full-back options in January, with a new centre-back emerging as a first target.

According to reports from Spain, it has been revealed that Nottingham Forest are currently in talks to accelerate the transfer of CA Osasuna defender Enzo Boyomo, who is currently attracting attention for his excellent performances in the La Liga side.

Boyomo has a €25m (£22m) release clause in his contract with the Spanish club, and given his importance to the team, Osasuna would not consider selling him for less, but there is certainly no lack of interest from England.

Three Premier League clubs are said to be in pole position to sign his signature, with Fulham and Brighton & Hove Albion also in the race alongside Tricky Trees.

‘Fast’ Boyomo could be a solid addition to Forest’s backline

Forest will be happy with their current centre-back options, given that Nikola Milenkovic and Murillo formed a great partnership in the Premier League last season, with the pair missing just three games and helping them qualify for Europe.

However, there are signs that the 24-year-old could be a solid signing if the new manager is looking to bring in more depth. When asked about his game after arriving in Osasuna, the Cameroonian said: “I think I’m a calm centre-back with good ball control and speed.”

Not only that, the French-born defender is also good at winning back possession, ranking in the 88th percentile for tackles per 90 over the past year when compared to other centre-backs.

Boyomo’s transfer fee of £22m would be a reasonable price for Forest. Forest clearly need an injection of new quality after a very poor start to the season.
