  • Fabrizio Romano talks Marcus Rashford and Barcelona
  • Will Marcus Rashford need to take a pay cut to join Barcelona permanently?

On-loan Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is said to have sent a very clear message about his future plans.

Fabrizio Romano believes Rashford, who left Man Utd on loan this summer, has made it clear he is keen to join Barcelona permanently.

The England international has made a bright start to his time at Barça and is showing signs of returning to his best form after a difficult spell at Old Trafford.

Rashford appears to have needed a change of scene and a new challenge after things stalled a bit at United, so it’s not too surprising to see him have clear intentions of leaving the club permanently.

It remains to be seen whether Barcelona will definitely sign Rashford on a permanent basis, but the 27-year-old has certainly taken the opportunity after impressing earlier in the season for Hansi Flick’s side.

Rashford has contributed five goals and four assists for the Catalan giants, and Romano seems to suggest his move could become permanent if he is happy with his form in the second half of the season.

“I have to mention Marcus Rashford. Rashford is doing great for Barcelona,” Romano said.

“Rashford has sent a very clear message. His desire to be a Barcelona player has been there since January 2025.

“I have been communicating the internal feeling towards Barça for many weeks now, and it is that Rashford really fits perfectly into the structure that they have from a tactical point of view at Barça. They are also very happy with all the relationships that Rashford has with his team-mates.”

“I have to be clear about Rashford’s reputation. He is really popular in the Barcelona dressing room.

“So I will tell you that the feeling inside Basa, and by internal I mean the board, the management, the technical staff, but from what I understand, the manager and those who work closely with Hansi Flick, is that if Marcus Rashford continues to perform like this and with his perfect attitude from all points of view, then he has a very good chance of staying at the club beyond this season.”

Will Marcus Rashford need to take a pay cut to join Barcelona permanently?

However, according to Romano, one of the key details of the story is that Rashford will need to take a pay cut to finalize his move to Camp Nou, which is not necessarily expected to be a big issue.

“As we already told you a few weeks ago, in order to become a Barcelona player this summer, Marcus Rashford’s wages had to be reduced. Therefore, in order to make this deal with Barcelona possible, he had to give up part of his salary at Manchester United.”

“But it won’t be a big issue. Of course it will be a point of discussion, because ultimately salary negotiations are always important for all players. Not now, not in October, not in November, not in December. So let’s wait for it.”

“Rashford’s first task will be to convince Barcelona, but the start has been very good, so there is a concrete possibility that Marcus will remain at Barca beyond the 2025-2026 season.”
