LONDON — Argentine tennis player Facundo Bagnis has elected to begin a voluntary interim suspension in an anti-doping case after testing positive for substances classified as diuretics and masking agents, the International Tennis Integrity Agency announced Thursday.

The test for the 35-year-old Bagnis came while he was participating in qualifying for the US Open in August. The loss in the first round was his sixth straight loss in Grand Slam qualifying.

He reached a career-high No. 55 in the ATP Rankings in 2016.

Bagnis was informed of the outcome this month and chose to begin his interim suspension last week. If a player is ultimately suspended, the provisional suspension will be counted as elapsed time.
