According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are preparing to sign Crystal Palace wing-back Daniel Muñoz as part of their plans to strengthen their defensive options next summer.
The Colombian international has been one of the best-performing players in the Premier League this season and has now emerged as a serious target for some of Europe’s top clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester City.
Munoz became an integral part of Oliver Glasner’s setup. With Barcelona looking for a long-term solution for the right-back position, Muñoz’s profile fits the bill: defensively reliable, technically structured and able to contribute in attack.
Barcelona are impressed with Daniel Muñoz
Sources close to the Camp Nou say Barcelona’s recruitment team has been impressed with Muñoz’s performances and versatility.
The Catalan giants are expected to prioritize the right-back position in the 2026 summer transfer window, as Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco aim to add depth and balance to their defensive line.
The 29-year-old’s €30 million price tag makes him an available option for Barcelona, who are willing to allocate funds to key positions, although they still overcome Financial Fair Play restrictions.
La Liga giants face competition from Premier League clubs
However, Barcelona will face stiff competition. Chelsea are said to be keeping a close eye on Muñoz as they continue to revamp their squad under manager Enzo Maresca.
The Blues see him as an ideal candidate to compete with injury-plagued players Reece James and Maro Gusto.
Meanwhile, Manchester City are also following Munoz’s development. Josep Guardiola is thought to admire his high-pressing ability and energy.
Muñoz, who has made over 30 appearances for Colombia, is one of the Premier League’s most underrated full-backs.
Barcelona have been on the hunt for a reliable right-back since the departure of Dani Alves. The club experimented with the likes of Jules Kounde, Sergi Roberto and Joao Cancelo, but none of them could provide a consistent long-term solution.
Muñoz’s experience and form make him an attractive and viable option as the club looks to rebuild its defensive identity.
