PGA Tour returns to Asheville for first time in 86 years for fall event

ASHEVILLE, N.C. — The PGA Tour will return to North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains for the first time in 86 years for the FedEx Cup Fall Event in September.

The Biltmore Championship in Asheville, sponsored by Biltmore Estate and Explore Asheville, is scheduled for September 17-20 and is the second new fall event the tour announced last month. It will be held at The Cliffs at Walnut Cove, a signature design by Jack Nicklaus.

North Carolina has already won the Twist Championship in Charlotte (May) and the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro (August).

The PGA Tour was last held in Asheville in 1942, with a four-year tournament called the Land of the Sky Open. Ben Hogan won his first individual tour title in 1940, starting with three consecutive wins at Asheville.

This event was held one week before the Masters from 1940 to 1942. It’s now the third week of September, which is when most players are trying to keep their PGA Tour cards.

The LPGA Tour was held in Asheville from 1957 to 1960.

The announcement of a four-year contract with Asheville further expands the fall 2026 schedule. The Good Good Championship will be held in Austin, Texas from November 12th to 15th. Other Fall Series events in 2026 include stops in Utah, Japan, Mexico, Bermuda and the southeast Georgia coast.
