Sunderland and Wolves have had contrasting starts to the Premier League season, but could go head-to-head in the transfer window as both clubs look to strengthen their respective squads in January.

Sunderland currently sit within the top four and signing him in January would help them push for a top-half finish. It would be a huge success for Regis Le Bris’ team. As for Wolves, they are languishing at the bottom of the Premier League with just two points from 11 games and need some exciting new faces to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Both clubs believe they need a striker, so it’s no wonder they’ve targeted the same player.

According to Fichajes (via Sunderland Echo), Sunderland and Wolves are among the clubs interested in signing Gonzalo Garcia, who has also recently been linked with Aston Villa. The 21-year-old has struggled for playing time at Real Madrid this season, so it cannot be ruled out that he could seek a move to the Premier League in the winter to continue his development.

Sunderland and Wolves are reported to be willing to pay €20m (about £17.6m) each for Gonzalo, who shot to stardom in the summer after scoring four goals at the 2025 Club World Cup. Real Madrid are said to be considering whether to accept an offer for the young striker, who is next in line to Kylian Mbappé and Endrik in the Bernabéu pecking order.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will allow Gonzalo to leave, and if so, whether he will end up moving to either Sunderland or Wolves. Both clubs will give him a good chance to play regular football, which is necessary at his age.
