Newcastle United are interested in signing French midfielder Matteo Guendouzi.

The 26-year-old has not been at his best this season and has been linked with a move away from Lazio. According to a report by SportWitness, the player could be sold in the coming months for a transfer fee of around 25 million to 30 million euros.

Newcastle wanted to sign Guendouzi several months ago.

Along with Newcastle, Sunderland are also monitoring his situation closely. Both clubs need more quality and depth in the middle of the park and the France international could be the ideal addition. He has previously played in the Premier League for Arsenal and should be able to settle in quickly and make an immediate impact. Perhaps a fresh start might be ideal for him.

The opportunity to move to the Premier League would be an exciting one for him. Newcastle have an ambitious project and are competing in the UEFA Champions League. They have quality players at their disposal. France may also be tempted to join them.

On the other hand, Sunderland were promoted to the Premier League this season and have enjoyed good results in the top flight so far. It will be interesting to see if they can convince the 26-year-old to join the club.

He needs to join a club where he plays regularly. Either club could offer him that platform. Newcastle will likely be a more attractive destination given its resources and the current stage of the project.

They won the domestic trophy last season and are competing in Europe. Sunderland are not yet at that level.

It will be interesting to see which of the two clubs can conclude a contract. The reported asking price is affordable for both teams. The player is at the peak of his career and an investment in his future could be justified.
