Manchester United are quietly expanding their recruitment network ahead of the 2026 transfer window, with new reports revealing the club are keeping a close eye on Stade René duo Jeremy Jacquet and Mohamed Meite.
According to The Sun, United scouts were seen attending Rennes’ 1-0 win over Paris FC on November 7, and the two French talents were the main focus of the trip.
20-year-old Jeremy Jacquet has become one of the most intriguing young defenders in Ligue 1 this season. The centre-back has played every game for Rennes so far in the campaign, an impressive feat for a player of his age, and has emerged as a key pillar.
Jaquet attracted strong interest from Arsenal and Crystal Palace last summer, before committing his long-term future to Rennes by signing a contract extension until 2029.
Manchester United enters French market with talented duo
The new deal means the French side are in a strong negotiating position, with any approach from Man United likely to require a hefty transfer fee.
Despite this, United’s scouting department reportedly sees him as a potential long-term defensive investment, especially with Harry Maguire’s future uncertain.
Alongside Jaquet, United are also evaluating the progress of 18-year-old striker Mohamed Meite, who is widely regarded as one of Rennes’ most exciting academy prospects.
United list young striker as transfer target
Meite is yet to establish himself as a regular in the first team, but he is making waves in French youth football circles.
While Meite is seen as a long-term project rather than a player who can immediately compete for first-team minutes, his profile fits United’s recent efforts to modernize their recruitment structure under Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS, who have prioritized smart signings with an eye on the future.
United’s presence in France shows real interest. As competition for Europe’s best young players intensifies, early scouting could prove decisive if either player becomes available in 2026.
