Here’s a quick rundown of the Rookie of the Year race:

Favorite: Cooper Flagg, who was the first overall pick by Dallas in the 2025 NBA Draft, started as a -185 favorite and remains the frontrunner. He had a standout performance against Toronto recently, scoring 22 points, grabbing four rebounds, dishing out four assists, and blocking one shot to help the Mavericks secure their first victory of the season.

Rising Star: Despite Flagg’s lead, the biggest rookie sensation so far has been Philadelphia’s VJ Edgecombe. In his debut on October 22nd, Edgecombe scored 34 points in a thrilling 117-116 win over Boston, marking the highest scoring rookie debut since Wilt Chamberlain’s 43 points back in 1959. He also contributed seven rebounds and three assists. Following that, Edgecombe added 15 points, eight assists, six rebounds, and three steals in a 124-121 win against the Hornets. His stellar start boosted his odds from +2500 after the draft to +190 within the first week of the season.
