Man City are set to sign a new right-back next summer, with Newcastle’s Tino Libramento remaining their top target. The 23-year-old, who made his return to action against Josep Guardiola’s side on Saturday, could move to Manchester in 2026, but that will depend on whether he signs a new contract at St James’ Park.

Libramento’s contract expires in 2028, but Newcastle are hoping to tie Home to a new deal in preparation for the remaining two-and-a-half years of his contract. However, that is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

According to Football Insider, Mick Brown has revealed that Livramento is expected to postpone making a decision on his future until the second half of the season.

“I would be surprised if a decision was made about it now. Obviously Man City are interested and Newcastle also want to keep him with a new contract offer because he’s an important player for them, but I don’t think that’s on his mind at the moment.”

“He wants to play for England at the World Cup and obviously getting back to fitness and performing for Newcastle will give him the best chance of doing that. If he then goes to the World Cup and does well there, that could obviously have an impact on his future because there will be more attention on him.”

“Therefore, he may delay signing a new contract and then see what his options are. In any case, I expect it will have to wait until after the World Cup, because that is his focus at the moment.”

Is Tino Libramento the right-back Man City need?

Libramento has been in action since joining Newcastle in 2023 and is widely considered to be one of England’s best full-backs. There is no doubt that he would be Man City’s top signing, but it will not be easy to get him signed.
