Pauling Firmly Believes Jukebox Man Has What It Takes to Portray King George

Ben Poling has firmly stated that he wouldn’t exchange Jukebox Man for any of his rivals in the upcoming King George VI Chase, especially following the horse’s thrilling, come-from-behind victory at Haydock on Saturday. After a break from racing since winning the Coutstar Novice Chase at King George last Christmas, Jukebox Man made a strong return in the Graduation Chase at Merseyside, leading convincingly under jockey Ben Jones.

Poling reports that Jukebox Man is recovering well and is in good condition. Meanwhile, the Willie Mullins-trained Gaelic Warrior has stirred excitement at Kempton’s Boxing Day feature after an impressive win over stablemate Fact to File in the John Durcan race at Punchestown on Sunday. Poling remains confident about taking Jukebox Man against these top contenders.

“Jukebox Man appears to be in great shape, which is fantastic considering it’s his first race back in a while,” Poling said. “There’s a lot to look forward to in the race next month—it will be very competitive, especially with the strong performances we’ve seen in Ireland. But we have a horse ready to compete, and with some favorable conditions, I believe we’ll get a true sense of where we stand.”

He added, “He’s a thrilling horse who didn’t need more time to master the fences, and I wouldn’t swap him for any other candidate in this King George lineup right now. Willie Mullins has top contenders in Gaelic Warrior and Fact to File, but it’s uncertain if both will run at Kempton.”

Reflecting on Gaelic Warrior’s recent performance, Poling commented, “It was impressive how he kept his strength throughout and fought back at the end. Fact to File also did well, so it’s shaping up to be an exciting King George when all the horses come together.”

When asked if Jukebox Man had surpassed expectations at Haydock, Poling said, “I was very pleased with his jumping and movement. The pace wasn’t too fast, but he stayed flawless over the fences, showing the same sharpness as last season. After his injury, it’s crucial to see that kind of focus.”

He concluded, “I stressed before that his strength is a major asset. He didn’t have to push himself hard to win, making it an ideal preparation. This race was perfect for his fitness and confidence heading into Kempton.”

Fan Take: This update on Jukebox Man’s comeback is thrilling news for horse racing fans, highlighting the return of a strong contender to the King George VI Chase. The brewing competition among top horses like Jukebox Man, Gaelic Warrior, and Fact to File promises an electrifying and memorable event, which is great for the sport’s excitement and fan engagement.
