Liverpool may have spent more than £400m in the summer, but it has become clear Arne Slott’s side still need reinforcements. They plan to sign a new central defender in 2026, but there is also room for another midfielder.
Liverpool have been without key players in recent months, with the likes of Alexis Mac Allister, Florian Wertz and Curtis Jones unable to step up consistently. As such, a new contract, more specifically one that rivals the club’s record contract, could be targeted.
Federico Valverde aims to sign from Liverpool
Liverpool spent around 150 million euros to sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle, but according to Ficajes they are also prepared to spend that amount on Real Madrid’s all-action midfielder Federico Valverde. The Uruguay international, who can also play as a right-back, is seen as an ideal signing for the Anfield club.
Valverde’s contract runs until 2029, so Real Madrid are under no pressure to sell him. However, they are aware that 150 million euros is a difficult price to turn down, even though the midfielder is one of their most valuable players.
Should Liverpool spend big on Federico Valverde?
There is no doubt that Liverpool need a centre-back, but a dynamic midfielder could also help. Valverde, who has also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United, is probably the best in the world in this mold, which is why he would be a great addition to the team in the slot.
However, given the struggles of Isaac and Werts, who were handed over £100m in the summer, it is almost certain that this money will not be spent on a single player again. Liverpool may have to settle for a cheaper replacement if he becomes available in the coming months.
