His former coach Marcus Down told Sky Sports: “I asked him at the meeting about his career goals, and everyone on the team said, ‘Oh, I’ll be the winner of the German Championship this year and I’ll be the first in the starting 11.” Florian said, “I’ll win the Barondoor in the future.”

Wirtz responded: “I used to say this every day when I was younger.”

Down added: “I said it’s okay. Usually I think I’m fine. In this case, I went your way and said you could achieve that.”

Despite not hitting top form yet in the Premier League, he shows a glimpse of his quality. It is still unclear whether he will be able to improve in the coming weeks.
