The 2025 Winter Thoroughbred Meet at Los Alamitos will feature four stakes races for young horses, including two prestigious Grade 2 events. The meet spans six days, kicking off on Friday, December 5th, and wrapping up Sunday, December 14th, with races scheduled from Friday through Sunday across both weekends. Post time is set for 12:30 p.m.

The first major stakes is the Grade 2 Starlet, a $200,000 guaranteed race for 2-year-old fillies, run over 1 1/16 miles on Saturday, December 6th. Following that, on Saturday, December 13th, the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity, also a $200,000 guaranteed event for 2-year-old horses, will take place at the same distance.

Additionally, there will be two one-mile races restricted to California-bred or produced 2-year-olds. The $100,000 Soviet Problem for fillies and mares runs on Sunday, December 7th, while the $100,000 King Glorious for stallions and geldings will be held on Sunday, December 14th.

Ticket prices include $3 for grandstand admission and $2 for seniors aged 62 and above. Burgart’s and Vessel’s Club charge $10 each for entry, with tickets available online at losalamitos.com. Free public parking is available at the venue, with a preferred parking option costing $5.

Betting options feature two $1 Pick 4 wagers covering races 2-5 and the last four races, a $2 Pick 6, and a Player’s Pick 5 option on the first five races, which has a reduced takeout rate of 14% and a minimum bet of 50 cents. The Pick 6 offers a 70/30 payout split, giving 70% to tickets with six winners and 30% to those with five out of six.

Two winners will earn spots at the 2026 National Thoroughbred Racing Association Handicapping Championship in Las Vegas. The contest includes the entire Los Alamitos race card with various bet types, and full rules are available on the official website.

Entries for the meet’s opening day will be accepted on December 2nd.
