Meet Drew Timme: The Rising Star Behind the Lakers’ Two-Way Contract Who Turned Heads Against the Nets

The LA Lakers have recently bolstered their roster by signing a notable two-way player familiar to many NBA followers. Despite starting the season at a strong 12-4 record, the Lakers have largely been without LeBron James, whose eventual return is anticipated to address key team weaknesses.

LeBron James is known for creating scoring opportunities, which could help improve the Lakers’ struggles with three-point shooting this season. To strengthen their squad further, they have signed Drew Timme, formerly of the Brooklyn Nets and current South Bay Lakers player, to a two-way contract while waiving Christian Koloco.

The Lakers have faced challenges due to Deandre Ayton’s injury, reminiscent of last season’s struggles. Timme, who made his mark with the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the NCAA and played in the NBA G League for teams like the Wisconsin Herd, Stockton Kings, and Long Island Nets, signed a multi-year contract with the Nets earlier this year but was waived this summer before joining the South Bay Lakers and now the LA Lakers.

Timme could play imminently, starting with the Lakers’ game against the LA Clippers. However, the team hopes for a swift return of Deandre Ayton, who suffered a knee contusion and is expected to miss at least a few games but might be back by the NBA Cup finale against the Dallas Mavericks. Ayton has been a strong contributor, averaging 15.5 points and 8.4 rebounds per game this season.

Fan Take: The addition of Drew Timme represents a promising boost for the Lakers during Ayton’s absence, showcasing the importance of developing talent through the G League. This move highlights the evolving landscape of NBA rosters, where flexibility and depth can be crucial for a championship-contending team.
