Ex-Sabers Forward Lands on Injured Reserve List

Former Buffalo Sabres forward Marcus Foligno is expected to be out of action for an extended period. The Minnesota Wild have placed him on injured reserve, confirming that he will be sidelined on a week-to-week basis due to a lower-body injury.

This setback is particularly challenging for Foligno, who is striving to recover from a difficult start to the season. In 23 games this season with the Wild, he has yet to score a goal, tallying only two assists and holding a minus-10 rating. This contrasts with his previous season’s performance, where he played 77 games, scored 14 goals, made 15 assists, accumulated 29 points, and maintained a plus-7 rating.

Foligno began his NHL journey with the Sabres after being selected 104th overall in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. Over six seasons with Buffalo (2011–12 to 2016–17), the 6-foot-3 forward notched 49 goals, 67 assists, 116 points, 334 penalty minutes, and 1,023 hits across 347 games. His tenure with Buffalo ended when he was traded to the Wild during the 2017 offseason.

Fan Take: Marcus Foligno’s injury is a significant blow to the Minnesota Wild and fans who have followed his gritty style of play since his Sabres days. His absence highlights the physical grind of hockey and the importance of depth in a team’s roster during the long season.
