Trevor Zegras scored during regulation time, and Travis Konecny also netted a goal in the shootout, helping the Philadelphia Flyers secure a 4-3 victory over the New York Islanders on Friday. Tyson Foerster and Sean Couturier contributed goals during regulation as well, with the Flyers jumping to a 3-0 lead just under two minutes into the second period. Samuel Arson made 28 saves, contributing to Philadelphia’s fourth win in five games.

Rookie Matthew Schaefer recorded a goal and an assist, while Emil Heinemann and Anders Lee also scored for the Islanders, who have now lost three of their last four matches. David Rittich made 18 saves in goal. Schaefer made history as the first teenage defenseman in NHL history to score eight goals within his first 25 games, breaking Bobby Orr’s record early in the second period.

The Islanders rallied from a three-goal deficit with a strong second-period effort. Lee’s power-play goal late in the period tied the game, marking New York’s first power-play success in 30 attempts. Kyle Palmieri appeared to suffer a left knee injury but managed to steal the puck and set up the Islanders’ first goal. Heinemann followed with a wrist shot at 5:42 of the second period, narrowing the Flyers’ lead to 3-1; Palmieri did not return after the injury.

Heinemann, 24, achieved a career-high with his 10th goal. Foerster and Couturier scored just 22 seconds apart following an Islanders turnover midway through the first period. Zegras’ power-play goal, deflected by Islanders defenseman Ryan Purok 1:55 into the second period, pushed Philadelphia’s lead to 3-0.

The Flyers will face the New Jersey Devils on Saturday to wrap up their four-game road trip, while the Islanders will host the Washington Capitals on Sunday.

Fan Take: This game showcased the rising talent in the NHL with young stars like Schaefer making history and exciting plays changing the momentum. For hockey fans, it’s a thrilling reminder of how quickly the tide can turn and the importance of seizing every opportunity on the ice.
