Newcastle United reportedly intend to approve a new loan move for young Spanish midfielder Antonio Cordero as soon as possible.
The 19-year-old, who recently joined the Magpies from Malaga, looks like a promising player, but he has struggled to get minutes so far this season on loan at Belgian club KVC Westerlo.
According to Cadena SER, this will result in Newcastle canceling his loan with the club, with Deportivo La Coruña leading the race to sign him.
Cordero has the potential to develop into a great player if he is given the chance to play regularly and develop, so it is vital that Newcastle make another loan move soon after this difficult period in Belgium.
Will Antonio Cordero bounce back on loan to Deportivo?
Cordero shone with Málaga and it’s no great surprise that a number of Spanish clubs were keen to sign him ahead of January.
However, Deportivo have now emerged as clear front-runners and could be a good move for the teenager to get his career back on track.
Deportivo currently play in Spain’s second division and are aiming for promotion to La Liga, so this should be a good platform for Cordero to prove himself.
Newcastle fans will no doubt be keeping an eye on Cordero’s development, as manager Eddie Howe is likely to have him in mind as a player who could make an impact for the first team in the near future.
NUFC have made smart additions in recent years and signing Cordero on a free transfer should still prove to be a good deal for them if they can quickly resolve their difficult situation this season and get him back on the pitch as soon as possible.
