Oleksandr Usyk Teases Next Move in Boxing Following Loss of Undisputed Title

Former undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk has recently shared significant news regarding his career after unexpectedly losing the WBO heavyweight title. A few weeks ago, it was announced that Usyk had given up his WBO belt to avoid a mandatory fight with Fabio Wardley, a decision that surprised many. Following his July victory over Daniel Dubois, Usyk’s next steps were uncertain, but he has now clarified his plans. Recently, Usyk, attending the 2025 WBC Tournament in Bangkok, stated that his loss of the WBO title is only temporary. Although some question his status as undisputed champion, Usyk firmly emphasized he still holds multiple belts, affectionately highlighting his favorite green WBC belt. Before reclaiming the WBO title, Usyk may need to defend his IBF heavyweight title, as contenders Jared Anderson and Frank Sanchez have been offered a final eliminator bout. Interestingly, both Anderson and Sanchez were seen at Jake Paul’s training camp as he prepares for his fight against Anthony Joshua.

Usyk has been widely regarded as one of boxing’s top fighters across several weight classes, but this year Terrence Crawford secured the undisputed super middleweight title, sparking debates about the current pound-for-pound best boxer. Fans are now actively engaging in polls on who deserves that top spot in the sport today.

Fan Take: This development marks a critical juncture for Usyk and heavyweight boxing, as the temporary title relinquishment introduces new dynamics among top contenders. Fighting fans should watch closely, as Usyk’s comeback fight and the rising competition could reshape the heavyweight division’s future and reignite excitement in the sport.
