Laurie Canter gives up his PGA Tour card and joins LIV Golf’s Majestics

Laurie Canter declined his PGA Tour card to play Saudi-backed LIV Golf for the second time. The league announced Monday that he has joined the Majestics for the 2026 season.

Canter finished seventh in the Race to Dubai and was among 10 players on the European Tour to earn a chance to join the PGA Tour. He was suspended from the PGA Tour after joining LIV Golf, and his card went to Daniel Brown.

“Joining Majestics GC is a great opportunity to be part of a team that has helped shape LIV Golf since day one,” Canter said in a statement.

The 36-year-old from England was an anomaly when LIV launched the league in 2022. He had limited standing on the European tour and joined a Saudi-backed league to get a place to play. Canter played in seven games in his first year and finished 28th in the standings.

In 2023, he became a reserve player as a substitute for an injured player and participated in LIV Golf 11 times. Kanter played with LIV twice as a backup before being replaced by Anthony Kim in 2024.

He returned to the European Tour and won the European Open in Germany in 2024. With another win in Bahrain in early 2025, Kanter reached number 50 in the world rankings. This earned him a spot in The Players Championship, making him the first former LIV player to compete in the Tour’s premier tournament. He also advanced to the Masters.

Kanter joins LIV Golf along with France’s Victor Perez.

The Majestics are a UK-based team that started with Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson and Sam Horsfield. Stenson failed to make the top 48 this year and was demoted, giving Kanter the spot.

“The growth in the league has been remarkable and my experience in the league has made me a more complete player and allowed me to win multiple times on the DP World Tour,” Kanter said, referring to the company name on the European circuit. “It’s a huge honor to be returning to the league with Majestics GC, they bring a standard of excellence, ambition and identity that really speaks to me.”

Tom McKibbin earned his PGA Tour card through the European Tour last year and joined LIV in January. Because the season had already begun, his PGA Tour card was not passed on to the next player. Kanter signed with LIV before the end of the year, so Brown could accept that.
