Ducati WorldSBK Newcomer Seals 2026 Deal at the Eleventh Hour: “I Had a Different Plan”

Alberto Sula is set to be among the rookies on the 2026 WorldSBK grid, following an unexpected change in his plans after Motocorsa Ducati announced a delay. Sula spent most of the 2025 WorldSSP season racing with the Evan Brothers Yamaha team as a replacement for Ardi Mahendra. Upon his debut at Magny-Cours, he made an immediate impression by securing a podium finish in the opening race of the championship.

Although Sula did not reach the podium again that season, he consistently finished within the top ten and secured top-six finishes in his last three races. This consistency caught the eye of Motocorsa, who made him available in 2026 after parting ways with Ryan Vickers.

Sula expressed his excitement about the opportunity with Ducati’s Moto Corsa team, admitting the offer came late and altered his initial plans. He credited the Evan Brothers team, particularly Fabio Evangelista and Mauro Pellegrini, for his success and growth. Despite missing tests in October and November at Jerez, Sula looks forward to his first experience on a World Superbike machine next year, with scheduled tests in Spain, Portugal, and Australia before the season starts.

Although he had chances to compete again in Supersport in 2026, Sula decided to move directly to the premier class, confident that opportunities like this are rare and worth seizing. He remains optimistic about the challenge and is ready to embrace the excitement of racing in WorldSBK.

Fan Take: This development is exciting for racing fans as it highlights emerging talent ready to shake up the WorldSBK paddock. Sula’s leap to the premier class could bring fresh energy and competition, signaling the sport’s ongoing evolution and appeal to young riders.
