Liverpool are reported to have begun contract negotiations this week with Arne Slott’s favorite addition ahead of joining Spanish giants Real Madrid in 2026.

Slott urges Liverpool to ‘remain humble’

Sunday’s 2-0 win against West Ham United was no false dawn for Liverpool or record-setting Alexander Isak. The Reds have continued their disastrous run of form and must complete their winning streak by beating Sunderland tonight.

With reports continuing to hint at potential manager candidates such as Ange Postecoglou, anything other than three points would only raise further concerns about Slott’s tenure.

Speaking to reporters ahead of Liverpool’s match against the Black Cats, Slott said:The challenge for the future is to build on this victory. We cannot believe that we have turned a corner or that recovery is underway.

“We have to stay humble, work hard and keep fighting, and then perhaps we can continue to make the small steps forward that are so needed.”

“I would like to welcome Regis Le Bris, his players, staff and the Sunderland supporters and manager to Anfield for tonight’s game. What they have achieved in the Premier League already this season reflects incredibly well the achievements of everyone at the club who won promotion in May.”

Liverpool are in the market for a left-sided winger this winter.

Such a run raised serious questions about the January transfer window and the need for reinforcements, particularly in defence. As things stand, Liverpool only have two senior centre-backs, but there have been rumors of transfers including Castello Lukeba and, of course, Marc Gehi.

Liverpool begin negotiations to sign Marc Gehi

According to TeamTalk, Liverpool began negotiations for Guehi this week in a bid to get the deal back on track and achieve their primary defensive goal over Real Madrid.

The Reds arrived within hours of signing the Crystal Palace star in the summer, but the Eagles canceled the deal at his death. They are now looking to get ahead of the pack by making an early move in the January transfer window.

Anfield officials are reportedly prepared to offer a contract worth around £30m next month, while others are lining up to sign Guehi as a free agent in the summer.

When Liverpool missed out on signing Guehi in the summer, even manager Slott couldn’t hide his admiration for him, telling reporters: “It would be foolish to deny that we are close to signing him.

“It’s no secret. Things like this happen often in football. Of course we would have liked to have signed him. If we feel that he can strengthen the team, we will never hesitate to do that.”

But it remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace are willing to part with the defender, who was described by Palace reporter Bobby Munsey as a “defensive monster”.
