The Pittsburgh Penguins have won four of their last five games, including back-to-back victories. Their latest win came in an intense 4-3 match against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday, where a controversial moment occurred as Nikita Kucherov’s game-tying goal was disallowed due to a handpass. The Penguins managed to hold off the Lightning in the final minute of regulation and secured two points.

Since head coach Dan Muse criticized the team following a 3-2 overtime loss to the Seattle Kraken on November 22, the Penguins have responded strongly. They aim to maintain this momentum in their upcoming game against the Dallas Stars on Sunday. The Stars, currently second in the Central Division with a record of 19-5-5, are riding a hot streak, having won two straight games and seven of their last ten.

Star forward Jason Robertson has shined this season with 18 goals and 37 points in 29 games and is expected to be a key player for Team USA at the Winter Olympics. Mikko Rantanen has also been impressive, tallying 13 goals and 38 points in 28 games, known for his agility and offensive skill. Wyatt Johnston, with 16 goals and 33 points in 29 games, remains a highly underrated force in the league.

Defensively, Miro Heiskanen leads the Stars and is regarded as one of the best defensemen worldwide, excelling in all zones with excellent gap control. Goaltenders Jake Oettinger and Casey DeSmith have both performed well this season, and the starting goalie for the Penguins is expected to be announced before the game.

After Saturday’s practice, the Penguins might tweak their lineup. Evgeni Malkin, who missed practice for a maintenance day, is expected to play. Justin Brazeau returned to the second line, while Noel Acciari shifted back to the fourth line. Matt Dumba replaced Connor Clifton on the bottom defensive pairing alongside Ryan Graves.

If Brazeau and Acciari are cleared to play, Sunday’s lineup will be:

Forwards: Novak, Crosby, Last; Fear, Malkin, Brazeau; McGroarty, Kindel, Koivunen; Dewar, Risotto, Acciari
Defense: Wotherspoon, Carlson; Shea, Letang; Graves, Dumba

Coach Dan Muse is likely to reveal his starting goalie during the pregame press conference. The game will drop the puck at 6 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on Sportsnet Pittsburgh, with radio coverage on 105.9 “The X.”
