Pulisic: USA Prepared and Focused—“We’re Not Underestimating Our World Cup Rivals”

The U.S. Men’s National Team (USMNT) is gearing up for the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup, and key players like Christian Pulisic and Tyler Adams have shared their insights on their prospects. After being assigned to Group D—featuring Australia and Paraguay, both of whom the U.S. has recently faced in friendly matches—these players feel confident in their preparations. This group also includes the winner of the European playoff among Slovakia, Kosovo, Turkiye, and Romania.

Pulisic acknowledged that their past experiences against these teams will give them an edge, although he emphasized the importance of respecting every opponent. “I think I’ll be in a good mood,” he stated. “We recently faced these teams, which gives us a clearer idea of what to expect. They’re going to be challenging, but it’s beneficial to have that experience.”

While confidence is crucial, the team is also looking to avenge their earlier disappointing exit in the 2022 Qatar World Cup. Adams pointed out that their approach this time will be more focused on tackling each match as it comes. He acknowledged that while winning is the ultimate goal, learning from past experiences and setting higher standards is equally vital.

“The last World Cup didn’t set any benchmarks—we were uncertain and inexperienced back then,” Adams reflected. “Now, we’ve matured both as individuals and a unit. Of course, everyone wants to win, but it’s also realistic to aim for the highest possible performance for the U.S. team.”

Pulisic echoed Adams’s thoughts, emphasizing the necessity to prioritize performance in their group. “Our first aim is to finish in the top half, and after that, it’s all about advancing as far as we can without becoming complacent,” he noted.

Fan Take: This news is pivotal for soccer fans, as the USMNT’s journey symbolizes not just a quest for victory, but a chance to restore national pride in the sport. Their performance could inspire a new generation of players and fans, significantly shaping the future of soccer in the U.S.
