The biggest headlines surrounding Man United this week were taken over by Reuben Amorim’s decision to miss Koby Mainu once against West Ham United.
Mainu was forced to watch from the bench as the Red Devils once again dropped points in a game they should have won with their European ambitions in mind.
What certainly doesn’t bode well for the young midfielder is that Amorim laughed off suggestions that he could turn to Mainu after the disappointing result against West Ham. And it sparked a new reaction from club legend Paul Scholes, who took to social media to urge the academy graduate to leave.
He said on Instagram: “Bulls. This kid is ruined by not letting him play for a team that can’t control the game of football. I hate to see a hometown player leave, but this is probably the best thing for him right now. Enough is enough.”

In the summer, the manager blocked his departure and told him to compete for a place, but since then Mainu hasn’t been given that exact opportunity.

According to Foot Mercato, as reported by Catch Offside, Man United’s recruitment chiefs are now pushing to sign Bouadi in 2026, with interest in the Frenchman taking shape.
The LOSC Lille star is one of the best young midfielders and could provide Amorim with qualities he hasn’t personally seen from Mainu yet.
But the Red Devils are not the only players in the race to sign the 18-year-old, with Premier League rivals Arsenal also eyeing a move to sign him for next year.
Como scout Ben Mattinson said Bouadi is “similar to Lijnders” and has the press resistance of an “elite” player despite being only 18. If Man United are looking for a permanent solution in midfield, the French teenager could be the answer.
