Manchester United midfielder Koby Mainu is reportedly a potential move target for Bayern Munich, according to Christian Falk.
Falk explained in his latest column for CF Bayern Insider that Mainu is not considered a top priority for Bayern at the moment, but is an option to keep an eye on.
The England international is currently struggling for minutes at Man United, starting just one game all season and none in the Premier League.
With the 2026 World Cup fast approaching, Mainu will be hoping to play for the regular first team in the second half of the season in order to have a chance of being selected for Thomas Tuchel’s England squad.
Will Koby Mainu leave Manchester United?
Mainu may not be Bayern’s top target at the moment, but he is sure to leave Old Trafford soon after a disappointing first half of the season under manager Ruben Amorim.
Amorim has been criticized for his treatment of Mainu and it would certainly be a risk to move him to another top European club, as there could be a strong backlash from fans if the 20-year-old develops into a world-class player.
Napoli is also a big name with La Repubblica and others strongly linked to Mainu, so he could be a player to keep an eye on if Bayern don’t pursue him.
Will United regret their Maynou decision for the rest of their lives?
Mainu showed great potential when he first broke into MUFC’s first team as a teenager, becoming a regular under Erik ten Hag and scoring the winning goal against Manchester City in the 2024 FA Cup Final.
It’s unclear why Amorim doesn’t make more use of Maynou, but it could be a decision he and United will regret for the rest of their lives.
Not only is Mainou a fantastic young player who undoubtedly has a big future ahead of him, replacing him with an equally talented midfielder would no doubt have cost a fortune, but since Mainou comes from the club’s academy, it cost him nothing.
