Mike Maignan has been linked with a move from AC Milan in recent months.
The French international goalkeeper looked set to leave in the summer, but Milan managed to keep him. His contract expires in the summer of 2026, and he is expected to leave the club as a free agent. He hasn’t signed a contract extension with them.
According to a report from TEAMtalk, several clubs are interested in signing him, but Chelsea remain the favorites.
It is also reported that the player has already made up his mind about a possible transfer. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can get a deal done. They need a reliable goalkeeper and the France international is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
A source told TEAMtalk: “Based on what became clear in the negotiations, Milan’s view is that Maignan has made up his mind.”
Robert Sanchez has not been able to live up to expectations since joining the London club. Chelsea need an upgrade from him and the Milan star would be ideal. He has proven himself for both club and country and is undoubtedly one of the best players in his position.
Chelsea would do well to sign a player of his quality and experience on a free transfer. He could be a crucial signing for the London club. Meanwhile, the opportunity to play in the Premier League would be an exciting one for the French national team as well. Maignan will be hoping to win big trophies with Chelsea.
Chelsea want to fight for big trophies in the upcoming season and need elite players who can bridge the gap to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City. Maninan will be a transformative deal for them.
There is a possibility that he could be acquired for a nominal price in January, but it seems more likely that he will move in the summer.
