Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano is rumored to be on the verge of leaving the German club in the coming months.

Manchester City are also in the race to sign him. The France international defender could sign on a free transfer at the end of the season, but it remains to be seen what will happen in the end.

According to TEAMtalk, Chelsea are already in talks about a possible transfer for the player. The 27-year-old has been hailed as Bayern’s ‘leader’.

No wonder they are keen on the French defender. They need more quality and depth in their defensive unit. They have had multiple injury problems at the back this season, with players like Axel Disasi and Benoît Badiashile having no future at the club.

Upamecano has proven himself in German football and has the quality to succeed in the Premier League. Signing a player of his quality on a free transfer would be a masterpiece. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea can beat his favorite side, Manchester City. The French defender is at the peak of his powers and could make an immediate impact in the Premier League.

He will want to join a big club where he can fight for trophies.

Chelsea is certainly one of the biggest clubs in the world. It remains to be seen how the situation will develop. Liverpool, Real Madrid and Barcelona are also monitoring the French defender’s situation.

Players who end up signing players on free transfers could potentially get big deals.

Chelsea will be aiming to return to the top of English football once again, having failed to compete for big trophies in recent seasons. Signing a quality player like Upamecano would certainly help bridge the gap with elite clubs.
