  • Cole Palmer was unlucky with injuries
  • Chelsea have important games in the coming weeks

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed star midfielder Cole Palmer is still playing despite pain from a lingering groin injury as the Blues prepare to face Everton in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old’s fitness is an increasing concern for Chelsea’s medical staff, who are treading carefully to avoid further aggravation of the problem.

Palmer’s injury troubles began in September, when he was forced off with a groin problem during Chelsea’s defeat to Manchester United.

What was initially expected to be a minor setback turned into a prolonged struggle and the England international was sidelined for some time.

Just as he was close to returning to full fitness, Palmer suffered a freak accident at home, breaking a toe and delaying his return once again.

Although the campaign got off to a strong start, a series of setbacks derailed its momentum, and it quickly established itself as one of Maresca’s key creative outlets.

“For Cole, it’s just that the more good players you have, the better the team is.” Maresca said, as reported by Metro.

“In terms of mixed feelings, he had a session with us and overall he was fine, but he was still a little sore.

“He had some pain in his groin. That’s something we need to monitor. I hope it’s not a full season, but it’s something that happens a little bit every day. I see it getting better, but some days it can get worse.

“For example, the next day after the Leeds game he was completely unwell and he played 30 minutes. After Bournemouth he was fine and played an hour. So it doesn’t mean anything, but it’s up to the day to decide how he feels.

“At the moment, he’s definitely in the group where he can’t start every game.”

Palmer’s return, even if only partially fit, could provide a much-needed boost as the club looks to reignite its bid for a top-four finish.

Chelsea’s medical staff are aware that the risk of recurrence remains high and are monitoring Palmer’s workload closely.

With important games on the horizon, including Premier League games against Newcastle United and Aston Villa, the club needs to find the right balance between short-term growth and long-term fitness.

Fans will be wondering how to buy tickets for next week’s match between Newcastle United and Chelsea. This game promises to be an important one for the Blues, who have the chance to keep pace with Premier League high flyers Arsenal and Manchester City.
