AC Milan plan to move Arsenal star down the pecking order in January

AC Milan have identified Gabriel Jesus as their top attacking target for the January transfer window, with the Italian giants exploring the possibility of a loan deal for the Arsenal forward, according to Corriere dello Sport, as reported by GOAL.

The Rossoneri, who are looking for reinforcements up front after a shaky start to the season, see Jesus as the ideal addition to inject speed, creativity and experience into their attack.

However, the move faces major challenges, mainly due to Milan’s limited transfer budget and the Brazilian’s high salary.

Under coach Massimilano Allegri, Milan have struggled for attacking stability, especially in big games.

Jesus’ versatility and work rate make him a perfect fit for Milan’s tactical blueprint, as he is a forward who can play both as a central striker and as a wide flank.

The 28-year-old’s Premier League and Champions League experience makes him a valuable addition to any team looking to challenge domestically or in Europe.

However, Milan’s financial situation rules out the possibility of a permanent contract, leaving a loan as the only realistic option. Jesus currently earns a total of around €16 million at Arsenal, which still comes with complications as it is far more than Milan’s wage structure can accommodate.

According to Italian sources, Milan could try to negotiate a contract in which Arsenal would pay part of the player’s wages, but any such arrangement would need the Gunners’ approval and would likely depend on the Gunners’ business in January.

Jesus is in a difficult position at Arsenal. He remains one of manager Mikel Arteta’s most trusted forwards, but his minutes have been limited by the rise of Victor Gokeres, who was signed last summer, and the emergence of Mikel Merino as a makeshift attacker.

With the 2026 World Cup in North America approaching, Jesus is reportedly keen to secure more consistent playing time in order to cement his place in Brazil’s national team.

Arteta has praised Jesus’ leadership and versatility, but with the manager having a large rotation this season and options such as Kai Havertz and Leandro Trossard, players who can also play up front for the Gunners, it may be difficult to use Jesus in the second half of the season.

This reduced role could make a mid-season loan more attractive for the player, especially if Milan can guarantee him regular football and a central role in the Allegri system.
