Justin Thomas has had a Hall of Fame-level career on the PGA Tour, but his heart has never been far from Tuscaloosa.

The former Alabama golf star and two-time PGA Champion will donate $1 million to the Crimson Standard, which will benefit Alabama’s men’s and women’s golf programs and the home of the Crimson Reserve. This donation is another powerful example of Thomas giving back to the place that helped shape both his career and life.

“Alabama Athletics is extremely grateful for Justin’s dedication and support to Crimson Reserve and our golf program,” said Greg Byrne, director of Alabama Athletics. “We are proud that one of our greatest student-athletes is giving back to the sport, both financially and with input on the design of a world-class facility.”

Thomas played for the Crimson Tide from 2011 to 2013, leaving as one of the best players in program history. During his time at Alabama, he gained national recognition as a Phil Mickelson Rookie of the Year, Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year, Haskins Award winner, and won the 2013 NCAA Individual Championship.

“It is difficult to express my love and feelings for the University of Alabama in words,” Thomas said. “I was very fortunate to play for Coach Sewell for two great years. He and his wife Stephanie were and are like family to me. This dream of joining the Crimson Reserve would not have been possible without Coach Sewell and Coach Potter and what they accomplished with the program, and I’m honored to be a small part of it.”

Alabama men’s golf coach Jay Sewell emphasized the lasting impact of Thomas’ generosity and accomplishments.

“I am extremely proud of Justin and appreciate what he has meant to our program and the University of Alabama,” Sewell said. “He is a huge part of the legacy of Alabama golf… His influence at the Capstone and success on the PGA Tour continues to inspire today’s players, and his gift will influence the young men and women who choose Alabama golf for years to come.”

Completed in September 2024, Crimson Reserve is considered the best collegiate golf practice facility in the country. The 164-acre complex includes advanced training techniques, recovery and nutrition spaces, team facilities, and a flexible nine-hole course designed to be played in multiple configurations.

“The Alabama women’s golf community is extremely grateful for Justin’s contributions not only to the Crimson Preserve, but also to our student-athletes,” said Mike Potter, women’s golf coach. “Justin Thomas’ impact on Alabama golf goes beyond the course.”

Long after winning trophies and titles, Justin Thomas continues to invest in the state of Alabama, ensuring the Crimson Tide’s standards in golf are as strong as ever.
