Manchester United are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of one of the Bundesliga’s most exciting young talents, with Cologne winger Said El Mara emerging as a key target ahead of next summer’s transfer window.

According to German newspaper Bild, United are keen to sign the 19-year-old but could face stiff competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who are also following his rapid rise in Germany.

Since Cologne’s return to the Bundesliga, El Mara has had a season of remarkable progress, quickly establishing himself as one of the club’s best performers.

After just 14 league appearances, the highly-rated winger has already scored six goals and provided three assists, impressive figures for a teenager who has adapted to top-flight football.

His speed, direct dribbling and composure in the final third make him a constant threat, while his willingness to track back is also impressive.

Bild reports that both Man United and Tottenham have already made initial contact with Cologne through their official representatives.

These early talks are understood to be exploratory, with both Premier League clubs asking about Cologne’s stance on a potential sale and the terms on which they would be willing to negotiate.

United and Spurs are thought to be prepared to spend between £26m and £35m to sign El Mara next summer, a figure that reflects both his current impact and long-term potential.

United’s interest is said to be driven by a desire to revamp their attacking options by signing a young, high-potential player who could develop into a key role.

El Mara’s versatility to play on either flank is in line with the club’s current recruitment strategy under manager Ruben Amorim, which prioritizes intensity, adaptability and technical quality in a wide range of areas.

Meanwhile, Tottenham see El Mara as a player who can thrive in the high-tempo environment of the Premier League.

Spurs are keeping an eye on up-and-coming talent across Europe and see the Cologne winger as a potential long-term solution who can add speed and unpredictability to their attack.

But the competition extends far beyond England. European powerhouses such as Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich are also fans of El Mara.

Despite that interest, reports suggest the teenager sees a move to the Premier League as the next step in his career, believing it provides the ideal platform for his development and global exposure.

It remains to be seen who will win the race to sign the Bundesliga winger next year, especially as there is growing interest in his performance from Premier League clubs.
