  • Will Ruben Neves move to Manchester United?
  • Midfielder opens door to return to Premier League

Manchester United are in the market for a midfielder, with a major push towards signing Al Hilal’s Ruben Neves.

Neves has reportedly rejected a new contract offer from Al Hilal and could make a surprise return to the Premier League, a development that has immediately put Manchester United and Newcastle United on alert.

According to The Times, the Portuguese midfielder is keen to return to England.

Al Hilal paid around £47 million to sign Neves in 2023, making him one of the early highlights of the Saudi Professional League’s ambitious recruitment drive.

The move was initially planned as a long-term project, but there are now reports that the relationship may be coming to an end.

Will Ruben Neves move to Manchester United?

Given Neves’ reluctance to extend his stay, Al Hilal are thought to be willing to sell him for a fee in the region of £18m in January rather than risk losing him on a free transfer next summer.

This stance significantly weakened al-Hilal’s negotiating position.

Further reports suggest that Man United, in particular, may seek to further reduce the price as they realize the Saudi club’s influence is declining.

United are prioritizing midfield reinforcements ahead of the January transfer window, looking to add control, composure and leadership to the center of the pitch.

Neves is the latest name to be added to United’s ever-growing shortlist.

Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton, Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson, Wolves midfielder Joao Gomez and Brighton’s Carlos Baleva are being monitored as part of a wider midfield rebuild.

But Neves offers something different: a proven Premier League pedigree, tactical intelligence and quick reaction time.

During his time with Wolves, Neves established himself as one of the most reliable deep midfielders in the league.

His passing range, positional discipline and ability to dictate the tempo were central to Wolves’ success in the top flight. He also became known for his leadership qualities and penchant for spectacular long-range goals, attracting praise from elite clubs in England and across Europe.

Neves’ decision to leave the Premier League in 2023 was seen as a bold move, but his desire to return suggests unfinished business.

Man United are in the race to sign the Portuguese midfielder, with a return to the Premier League looking increasingly likely as January approaches and Al Hilal remain open to negotiations.
